The former Supervisory Councillor for Boundary Matters in Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Ganiu Oyebanjo, appears to be having the last laugh as the once-solid alliance between Council Chairman Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe and his close ally, Seun Salami, publicly falls apart.

Oyebanjo, who is still contesting his suspension by the Ogunlewe-led administration, was said to be in high spirits as his former associates—now political rivals—continue to exchange words over governance, transparency, and accountability in the council.

It will be recalled that Oyebanjo had submitted a widely circulated petition to an anti-graft agency accusing Chairman Ogunlewe of abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds. The petition reportedly angered Salami, who at the time urged the council boss to dismiss Oyebanjo from office.

The petition triggered a chain of events that led to Oyebanjo’s arrest, detention, and subsequent prosecution over allegations of stealing classified council documents. Several of Ogunlewe’s loyalists, including Salami, also filed multiple defamation suits against him—cases that remain pending in court.

Although both Ogunlewe and Salami had publicly denied any fallout in the past, recent developments suggest that the alliance has broken down. Salami has since become one of the chairman’s fiercest critics, accusing him of lacking transparency in managing the triple federal allocations received by councils following the fuel subsidy removal.

His sudden change of tone has drawn mixed reactions within Kosofe’s political circles. While some residents applaud his boldness, others accuse him of inconsistency and political opportunism.

The rift has also spilled into state politics, with Ogunlewe’s supporters turning their criticism toward Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, describing him as “inactive” in Kosofe.

As the political storm in the local government intensifies, observers say Oyebanjo—still battling his own legal troubles—“must be watching with satisfaction” as his former allies trade accusations and lose the united front that once stood against him.
