The political atmosphere in Kosofe Federal Constituency is already heating up ahead of the 2027 general elections, following an open endorsement of the incumbent House of Representatives member, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, for a second term.
The endorsement was made by the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Barr. Moyosore Ogunlewe, during a school pack distribution exercise held in September for over 500 children across the constituency.
Ogunlewe’s early declaration marks a significant political development in Kosofe, especially as leaders of the two other councils under the constituency — Agboyi-Ketu LCDA and Ikosi-Isheri LCDA — are yet to publicly declare their stance on Ogbara’s re-election bid.
Observers say the endorsement signals renewed political momentum for the lawmaker, who has consolidated her influence since assuming office. Notably, her role in the emergence of Hon. Adetola Abubakar as Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA has strengthened her political base, giving her support in two of the three councils.
However, the political climate in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA remains tense. The relationship between Ogbara and the council’s chairman, Hon. Samiat Bada, has reportedly been strained for over two years. Sources within the All Progressives Congress (APC) describe the feud as a fallout from a once-close political alliance, with no reconciliation in sight despite calls for intervention from party elders.
Meanwhile, questions persist on whether Ogunlewe’s endorsement reflects the official position of APC stakeholders in Kosofe or represents a personal move. Party leaders such as Otunba Bushira Alebiosu and Omoba Ademuyiwa Sosanya, both GAC members, have yet to publicly comment on the development.
Findings by KosofePost reveal that several prominent APC members and former aspirants are already consulting and strategizing ahead of the primaries. Opposition parties are also reportedly mobilizing to challenge the ruling party’s dominance in the constituency as the 2027 elections draw closer.
