A concerned resident of Kosofe has urged former Minister of Works and Governance Advisory Council (GAC) chieftain, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, to extend his advocacy for transparency and accountability to his son, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe, Chairman of Kosofe Local Government.

The call followed a report by Impact Newspaper in which Senator Ogunlewe revealed that he had petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged disappearance of medical equipment meant for the abandoned Federal Medical Centre in Igbogbo. The facility, located off Yewa Road, was reportedly facilitated by the senator about 17 years ago during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

According to the senator, a former council administrator of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA is being probed over the alleged theft.

However, checks by KosofePost showed that another public facility — a library project initiated by former Kosofe LG Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Sofola, at Emmanuel High School near Senator Ogunlewe’s Ogudu residence — has remained abandoned for more than four years under the tenure of Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe.

Reacting to the development, community advocate Comrade Olayiwola Sulyman (Opomulero) commended Senator Ogunlewe for championing accountability but insisted that the same principles must apply within his immediate political circle.

“This is a welcome development. Stealing should not be allowed in government, even when projects are abandoned,” he said. “My call to the ex-minister is to also admonish his son that stealing is not allowed. We don’t need to be GAC members before writing the EFCC about the alleged embezzlement in Kosofe.”

He warned that political power is temporary and that all officeholders will eventually answer for their actions.

“Whether he has the President’s son’s ear or not, the case can still be on record with the EFCC. Once power and connections fade, everyone faces their records. Sir, you served your term and faced your records; the same should apply now,” he added.

The remarks have further intensified conversations around transparency and good governance across Lagos State’s 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs.
