The Founder of the Mayor Dele Oshinowo Foundation (MDOF), Mayor Dele Oshinowo, has said the foundation is committed to providing real and practical access to health insurance for vulnerable residents of Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Oshinowo, the immediate past Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), stated this on Wednesday during Day Two of the MDOF Free Healthcare Insurance Programme held at the Kosofe Local Government Secretariat. He disclosed that a total of 2,000 residents across Greater Kosofe would benefit from the three-day initiative.

KosofePost reports that the programme commenced on Monday at Ikosi–Isheri LCDA, where vulnerable residents were enrolled into the free health insurance scheme, before moving to Kosofe Local Government for the second day.

Oshinowo said the initiative was designed to change the narrative around healthcare access, noting that many residents often delay or avoid medical care, not out of choice, but because of cost and limited access. According to him, the foundation is ensuring that illness does not become a burden or a barrier to living a dignified life.

He said the programme was driven by compassion, responsibility, and a firm commitment to the wellbeing of the people, stressing that leadership does not end with holding public office and that service to humanity must be continuous.

“Today, here at Kosofe Local Government, we are proud to continue this journey as we move into Day Two of the three-day, 2,000 free health insurance plan across Greater Kosofe. This initiative is a clear statement of who we are and what we stand for,” he said.

Oshinowo added that even outside public office, his heart remains connected to the people, and his responsibility to uplift lives remains unchanged. He urged beneficiaries to see the programme as more than an intervention, but as an investment in their wellbeing, encouraging them to register, understand their coverage, select preferred healthcare facilities, and use the insurance whenever the need arises.

He described good health as the foundation for productivity, peace, and progress, and expressed appreciation to partners supporting the initiative, including the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) and the Eko Social Health Alliance, for their professionalism and commitment to expanding healthcare access in Lagos State.

Oshinowo also thanked the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government for the support and collaboration in hosting the programme, noting that such partnerships demonstrate what is possible when government and foundations work together for the benefit of the people. He further acknowledged Lagos State Health District II, as well as supporters Samson Agbato Consulting and Ridgewell Construction Limited, for standing with the foundation and supporting its mission.

He said the initiative reflects sustained impact, adding that the foundation has done it before, is doing it again, and will continue to do more because residents deserve consistent care, not one-off gestures.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe, commended Mayor Dele Oshinowo for the initiative, describing it as a laudable intervention that would significantly improve access to healthcare for vulnerable residents. He noted that beneficiaries would now be able to access hospitals of their choice and urged them to make proper use of the programme.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Tijani Bashiru expressed gratitude to the Mayor Dele Oshinowo Foundation for improving the lives of vulnerable persons in the area. He appealed to other well-meaning Nigerians to replicate the gesture, noting that government alone cannot meet all the needs of the people.
