Kosofe Politics Erupts as Opomulero Counters APC Claims on Defectors’ Electoral Value

By Bilesanmi Abayomi

A sharp exchange of words has broken out within the Kosofe political space following comments by APC member, Seun Salami, questioning the electoral value of opposition figures defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting through the KosofePost platform, prominent political actor Olayiwola Sulyman, popularly known as Opomulero, delivered a scathing rebuttal, dismissing Salami’s claims as misplaced and intellectually shallow.

According to Opomulero, the criticism of defectors conveniently ignores a more fundamental issue within the APC itself.

“The real question APC members should be asking their leaders is this: what is the electoral value of the so-called foundation members of your party?” he queried.
“If you truly had electoral value, your leaders would not be using tickets to negotiate with opposition politicians.”

Opomulero argued that the APC’s consistent reliance on opposition figures for electoral tickets, appointments, and political relevance exposes the weakness of its internal structure. He added that while opposition parties may not command the same financial resources as the ruling party, they possess the intellectual capacity to interrogate governance failures—an area he claimed APC loyalists struggle to defend convincingly.

He further described the trend as a “brain drain” from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition platforms into the APC, citing several examples to support his argument.

Among the instances he referenced were the allocation of key electoral tickets to former opposition figures such as Rep. Kafilat Ogbara and Moyosore Ogunlewe, as well as the elevation of former PDP stalwart and ex-minister Adeseye Ogunlewe to the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

Extending the argument beyond Kosofe, Opomulero claimed that many of the APC’s strongest political figures across the North and South-South regions are former PDP members.

“The APC is nothing without them,” he stated, accusing core party loyalists of prioritising praise-singing for political crumbs rather than building genuine electoral capacity.

The exchange highlights a broader pattern of political realignments in Kosofe over the past decade. Findings by KosofePost show that the APC has steadily absorbed high-profile opposition figures, including:

Rep. Kafilat Ogbara (House of Representatives)

Moyosore Ogunlewe (Kosofe Local Government Chairman)

Welly Hassan (Former PDP Deputy State Chairman)

Ola Apena (Former PDP Deputy State Chairman)

Mufutau Babalola (Former PDP LGA Chairman)

Sherifat Olushola-Hassan (Two-time PDP Federal Constituency Candidate)

As political alignments continue to shift, the debate over whether defectors represent strategic assets or political opportunists remains a divisive issue within the ruling party’s ranks—one that shows no sign of cooling off in Kosofe.
