Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde Okanlawon, representing Kosofe Constituency 01, has announced an ₦18 million dual-impact intervention targeted at promoting educational advancement and strengthening grassroots social support within the constituency.
The initiative, unveiled as part of the lawmaker’s year-end activities, comprises a ₦10 million scholarship scheme for indigent but academically outstanding students and an ₦8 million Christmas largess aimed at supporting local party structures.
Under the scholarship programme, 100 students currently enrolled in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria will each receive ₦100,000. According to Hon. Okanlawon, the scheme is strictly merit-based and designed to reward academic excellence while easing the financial burden on students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
To qualify, applicants must be residents of Kosofe Constituency 01 and have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0. Application forms will be available from January 2 to January 16, 2026, at the Constituency Office located at 15 Abbi Street, Mende, Maryland. The lawmaker assured that the selection process would be transparent and free from political influence.
In addition to the scholarship scheme, Hon. Okanlawon disbursed ₦8 million as Christmas largess to support grassroots mobilisation and welfare. The funds were shared evenly, with ₦1 million allocated to each ward in the constituency and an additional ₦1 million given to the Local Government Area Executive Committee (EXCO).
According to a representative of the lawmaker, the initiative reflects a deliberate effort to balance immediate social support with long-term investment in human capital.
“This dual intervention underscores Hon. Okanlawon’s commitment to the progress and wellbeing of the people of Kosofe. By supporting students and strengthening grassroots structures, the constituency is being positioned for sustainable development,” the representative said.
The announcement, dated December 23, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the lawmaker’s grassroots development agenda and reinforces his focus on education and community empowerment.
