A new Digital Empowerment Initiative has been launched to support journalists, bloggers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and community-based institutions with essential digital tools and infrastructure aimed at strengthening their online presence and public impact.
Powered by KosofePost in partnership with other organisations, the initiative seeks to bridge the digital gap confronting media professionals and civic groups by offering free access to professionally designed websites and sustained technical support. Selected beneficiaries will receive paid domain names and hosting for one year, complete website setup, customised professional email addresses, as well as one year of free maintenance and technical assistance.
According to the organisers, the programme is targeted at experienced journalists and bloggers, NGOs, community-based and faith-based organisations, as well as public affairs units actively engaged in information dissemination, advocacy, and community engagement.
Speaking on the initiative, the organisers explained that the programme is designed to empower credible voices and institutions with the digital capacity required to function effectively in a media-driven society. They stressed that a strong digital presence has become essential for visibility, accountability, and the building of public trust.
To be eligible, applicants are expected to demonstrate consistency in content production, with evidence of daily publishing for a minimum of five weeks. Prospective beneficiaries must also submit a 250–330 word statement of intent and provide links to five previously published articles to establish their track record.
The Digital Empowerment Initiative is expected to strengthen independent journalism, enhance civic communication, and improve the operational capacity of grassroots and faith-based organisations across communities.
