Lagelu Grammar School has celebrated its 40th anniversary with a reunion that brought together former students to reconnect, reminisce, and reflect on shared experiences from their secondary school years.
Speaking at the event, Mogaji Wole Arisekola described the school as a place where lifelong friendships were formed and enduring memories created. He recalled the strong sense of camaraderie among students, noting that the reunion provided an opportunity for classmates to share stories of their past and exchange updates on their present journeys.
Arisekola fondly recounted a memorable encounter with his English teacher, whose humour and warmth left a lasting impression on him and his classmates. He narrated how a simple classroom moment turned into collective laughter when fellow students jokingly referred to him as “the chairman,” a nickname that followed him throughout his school days.
He also reflected on his friendship with a classmate popularly known as “Chief Thug,” whom he described as fiercely loyal and deeply convinced of his leadership among their peers. According to Arisekola, the friend consistently stood by him, even within the classroom, and their playful sense of authority, often described as an “inner cabinet,” added excitement and colour to their school life.
Looking back on the years that have passed, Arisekola expressed gratitude that many members of the set are still alive and thriving decades after leaving school. He offered prayers for continued protection over members of the old students’ association and remembered classmates who have passed on, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls.
The 40th anniversary celebration served as both a reunion and a reflection on the lasting influence of shared education, friendship, and youthful experiences that continue to shape lives long after graduation.
