Residents across Greater Kosofe in Lagos State have received a boost of relief and hope following the distribution of 1,200 bags of rice by the Mayor Dele Oshinowo Foundation as part of its Lenten and Ramadan outreach programme.

The food support initiative benefited residents from Kosofe Local Government, Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area, and Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, with at least 1,200 families receiving bags of rice alongside additional food items.

According to the foundation, the gesture was designed to support vulnerable families and promote unity during the ongoing Lent and Ramadan seasons, periods observed by Christians and Muslims respectively.

Residents who benefited from the distribution expressed excitement and appreciation as news of the food support spread across the communities. In addition to rice, each package reportedly contained fruits such as apples, seedless grapes, and pears.

Founder of the foundation and Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area, Dele Oshinowo, explained that the initiative was intentionally designed to cut across religious lines.

“We’re targeting to support all faiths, emphasizing unity during this period of Lent and Ramadan,” Oshinowo said, noting that the effort is aimed at strengthening harmony and peaceful coexistence within the community.

The latest outreach adds to the foundation’s previous interventions in the area. Earlier reports indicated that the foundation donated ₦3 million to support vulnerable victims of the Oworonshoki demolition and also facilitated the distribution of 2,000 health insurance covers for residents of Kosofe Federal Constituency.

Community members who attended the distribution described the initiative as timely, particularly in the face of current economic challenges. One resident noted that the support served as a reminder that vulnerable residents are not forgotten during difficult times.

The Mayor Dele Oshinowo Foundation said it remains committed to humanitarian programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents and strengthening community solidarity across Greater Kosofe.
