The Agboyi Ketu LCDA witnessed a touching event on Friday as Hon. Kazeem Oluwaseun Balogun, Special Adviser On Community Affairs to Mayor Dele Oshinowo, distributed relief food items to Ketu residents. The programme held at Ila-Orangun Street, Elebiju Ketu, Lagos, and saw hundreds of residents receive packages containing rice, yam tubers, garri, and other items.
Speaking at the event, Balogun said that he decided to embark on this selfless service to humanity because of the situation of the country, and the dire need for social welfare in the community. He also added that the food relief package was a continuous programme and that there would be another edition in less than six months.
The event, which coincided with the Ramadan fasting and Christian Lent, also had interfaith clerics offer separate prayers, urging participants to have the spirit of forgiveness and promote unity and peace. Beneficiaries of the relief packages expressed gratitude for the kind gesture, with many stating that it would go a long way in alleviating their plight.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Adeshola Olarenwaju, said, “We are very happy because we all know the situation of the country now. So I’m not sure if there is anyone here today that will take this, and I won’t be happy or not even going to pray for the person that did this.” Another beneficiary, Mr Ola Alimi, urged other politicians to emulate the gesture of the Special Adviser.
Balogun advised other people to emulate the gesture and let them make people happy, adding that this was not the first time he was doing community service to the people. He said he did it when he was the Ketu Youth Chairman, and he had done street palliative. According to him, providing service to the people is what he loves doing.
