Egbin Power Plc, a leading power generation company, has reiterated the significant benefits of trees to environmental sustainability and biodiversity during its participation in this year’s Tree Planting Day alongside the Lagos State Government.

According to Egbin Power Plc, tree planting is a key approach employed to protect and restore terrestrial ecosystems, combat desertification, and promote sustainable use of forests. The company’s commitment aligns with Goal 15 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which focuses on halting biodiversity loss and preserving the environment.
During the 2023 Tree Planting Day activities held at Egbin Power Plc, Chief Executive Officer Mokhtar Bounour emphasized the company’s dedication to creating a safe, clean, and sustainable environment. He highlighted the importance of actions that promote sustainability, work-life balance, and the well-being of employees.
Bounour stated, “Our sustainability roadmap is well-defined, and this translates to an action plan that creates an enabling environment for our employees to offer their best at all times. As part of our tree planting initiative this year, we have planted over 200 trees within our facility, including the football field, to further strengthen our collective goal.”
He also emphasized that the planted trees would provide shade for sports enthusiasts while watching games on the field. Bounour highlighted the win-win nature of tree planting, improving lives while protecting the environment. Egbin Power Plc remains committed to its stakeholders and aims to provide electricity that drives socio-economic development while operating responsibly.
Both the management and staff expressed their enthusiasm for joining the Lagos State Government in commemorating Tree Planting Day. They acknowledged the pivotal role that trees play in the ecosystem, including providing food crops, offering shade, preserving biodiversity, and enhancing the overall beauty and purity of the environment.
Egbin Power Plc emphasized its environmental consciousness and commitment to caring for the environment. The company recognizes that what is given to the environment is reciprocated, and therefore, it remains dedicated to sustainable practices.
The Tree Planting Day event was organized by the Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency (LASPARK) and held under the theme “Let’s Green Our City.” The collaboration between Egbin Power Plc and the Lagos State Government demonstrates a collective effort towards preserving the environment and fostering a greener, more sustainable city for future generations.
