Renowned figure Omoba Awofeso Rasheed has voiced concerns over the prevalent economic hardships and the alarming increase in attacks on warehouses and trailer loads of essential goods across Nigeria.
In a recent statement made on Monday, Awofeso condemned criminal activities in the strongest terms, asserting that such acts are fundamentally incompatible with the principles of any civilized society. He called upon the government to bolster security measures to effectively combat these illicit activities.
“Acts of criminality, including attacks on warehouses and essential goods, are abhorrent and must be decisively addressed by the authorities,” Awofeso emphasized.
Highlighting potential solutions to mitigate such challenges, Awofeso emphasized the importance of implementing comprehensive welfare packages for citizens and prioritizing infrastructural development to stimulate employment opportunities.
“Investing in social welfare programs and infrastructure projects can play a pivotal role in addressing socio-economic disparities and reducing the prevalence of criminal activities,” he stated.
Furthermore, Awofeso urged the government to eradicate corruption at all levels of the economy, emphasizing that upholding the rule of law is paramount in fostering a fair and equitable society.
“Eliminating corruption and promoting transparency will contribute to building trust in government institutions and fostering a conducive environment for economic growth,” he asserted.
While acknowledging the complexities of the current economic landscape, Awofeso cautioned against reactionary measures that may exacerbate the situation.
“Although we are confronted with multifaceted economic challenges, resorting to attacks on warehouses is not a sustainable solution. Such actions not only pose security risks but also deter business owners from investing, leading to significant losses,” he cautioned.
