The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chapter, has announced ambitious plans to initiate N20 million worth of developmental projects aimed at engaging youths in various skill acquisition programs.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Monday, Mr. Ibrahim Adigun, the newly elected NYCN Chairman for Lagos State, emphasized the importance of empowering youth through productive endeavors. He urged young people to focus on constructive activities that foster personal and communal development.
“Our goal is to encourage youth empowerment and organize developmental programs that will benefit future generations,” Adigun affirmed. “Through collaborative efforts with local and global stakeholders, NYCN aims to implement sustainable developmental initiatives.”
Mr. Adetunji Owokalade, the Coordinator of Orile-Agege NYCN, highlighted that the announcement was part of preparations for International Youth Day, celebrated annually on August 12th. He stressed the pivotal role of youth in shaping society’s future, echoing this year’s theme of “Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development.”
“In alignment with this theme, we are launching a N20 million fundraising campaign,” Owokalade disclosed. “These funds will be dedicated to educational support, skill acquisition workshops, entrepreneurial ventures, community projects, and more.”
Owokalade also revealed plans to recognize individuals and organizations contributing significantly to youth development within Orile Agege and beyond. He expressed gratitude to sponsors and partners, emphasizing their crucial role in supporting the initiative.
“We believe that investing in youth today lays the groundwork for a prosperous tomorrow,” Owokalade concluded. “This initiative marks our enduring commitment to nurturing the potential of young people and building a sustainable future for our community.”
