Adesewa Adekoya, daughter of Ikosi Isheri LCDA Majority Leader, Councilor Gbadegoke Adekoya (JP), has graduated with distinction in MSc Biotechnology from the University of Salford, United Kingdom.
Speaking to Kosofe Post in Manchester on Monday, Gbadegoke expressed immense pride in his daughter’s achievement, describing it as a divine blessing. “She has always been excellent in her academic pursuits,” he said. “After graduating with a second-class upper degree from LASU, this distinction is a special gift from God.”
Addressing concerns about rising education costs in the UK, Gbadegoke shared his perspective on parents sending children abroad for studies. While not a supporter of the “Japa syndrome,” he emphasized the value of gaining international exposure to enhance one’s potential. However, he acknowledged the recent hike in maintenance and tuition fees in the UK as a significant barrier for many families.
“It all boils down to individual priorities, available resources, and opportunities,” he said. He also praised Nigeria’s ongoing education reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, expressing optimism that they would raise the country’s educational standards to global levels.
