The Egbe Obayori Okunrin (Asiwaju) Akile Ijebu has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of two iconic Nigerian statesmen-His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, and former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Egbe’s Publicity Secretary, Yori (Comrade) Akeem Temitope Akilo, the Giwa Egbe, Giwa Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, described the deaths as a tremendous national loss and a moment of deep reflection for the country.
“These were men of uncommon integrity and unwavering commitment,” said Giwa Anomo. “Oba Adetona stood as a beacon of royal wisdom, cultural heritage, and peaceful leadership. President Muhammadu Buhari, on the other hand, gave his all in the service of Nigeria—both as a soldier and a civilian leader.”
The Egbe extended heartfelt condolences to the royal household of Ijebuland, the government and people of Ogun State, and all Nigerians mourning these monumental losses.
Highlighting their enduring legacies, the Egbe praised Oba Adetona’s six-decade reign marked by progressive traditional leadership and nation-building, as well as President Buhari’s lifetime dedication to public service and national security.
“These men lived lives worthy of emulation,” the statement added. “Their contributions to nationhood, unity, and moral leadership will remain touchstones for future generations.”
The Egbe concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of both leaders and for strength and comfort for their families, communities, and the nation at large.
