Residents of Kosofe Federal Constituency in Lagos State have expressed mixed reactions following the creation of a WhatsApp media hub by the lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, to provide updates on her legislative activities and representation.
While the initiative was introduced as a means of improving communication between the lawmaker and her constituents, several residents argue that the platform remains largely inaccessible to a significant portion of the population. Some residents estimate that over one million people within the constituency are either unaware of the WhatsApp hub or lack access to the platform, raising concerns about inclusiveness and effectiveness.

One of the critics, Comrade Daniyan Oluwashola, described the initiative as inadequate, especially against the backdrop of prevailing socio-economic challenges in the constituency. He warned that political leaders risk losing public trust if representation is perceived as symbolic rather than impactful, particularly in light of recent demolitions in areas such as Oworo and Mile 12.
Oluwashola urged residents to prioritise competence and performance over sentiment or inducements, calling on voters to assess aspirants based on verifiable records rather than promises. He also challenged the lawmaker to present a clear and verifiable scorecard of her achievements, questioning whether messages of hope resonate with residents affected by demolitions, loss of property and limited access to medical support.
When advised to engage through the constituency office or town hall meetings, Oluwashola dismissed the suggestion, insisting that modern technology allows constituents to track representatives’ performance remotely. He cited examples of lawmakers whose activities are easily accessible online and reiterated his demand for a publicly available and verifiable record of Hon. Ogbara’s work.
Other residents who spoke on the matter echoed similar concerns, noting that reliance on WhatsApp as a primary communication tool excludes many constituents and widens the information gap. They also observed that supporters and aides often lack sufficient information to respond to public inquiries about legislative activities and constituency projects.
The residents called on the lawmaker to complement existing social media channels with a functional and regularly updated official website, which they believe would enhance transparency, accountability and access to information for a broader segment of the constituency.
As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, observers note that effective communication strategies and verifiable performance records are likely to play a key role in shaping public trust and confidence in representation within Kosofe Federal Constituency.
