The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, on Thursday commissioned the ultra-modern Ikenne Area Police Command in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, commending the donor, Otunba Kunle Soname, for providing the facility to strengthen security in the community.

Disu, who was represented at the commissioning by the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised Soname for his contribution to improving police infrastructure and supporting community safety.

He said the Inspector-General had personally directed him to commission the facility on his behalf, assuring residents that the police would make judicious use of the infrastructure to serve the community with integrity.

“This is a new facility and one of the improvements to police infrastructure across the state. We want to specially appreciate the people of Ikenne, particularly the Ikenne Development Association.

“We also want to specially thank the donor, Ambassador Kunle Soname, who has demonstrated his love for the community by giving us this edifice. It is a great gesture, and we appreciate it,” Disu said.

He assured residents of Ikenne and Ogun State of the police’s commitment to their safety, particularly as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

According to him, the police will put the necessary security arrangements in place to ensure peaceful and successful elections.

Speaking at the event, Soname said the establishment of the Area Command would improve security response and give residents more immediate access to police services.

He described security as essential to the development of rural communities such as Ikenne, adding that he was pleased the project had been commissioned ahead of Ikede Day celebrations scheduled for Saturday.

“I feel happy that this is happening today, which is a precursor to the Ikede Day happening this Saturday.

“The people of Ikenne have been fortunate because the police in this community have been professional,” he said.

Also speaking, the 10th President of the Ikenne Development Association, Otunba Olufemi Allen, expressed gratitude that the project had been completed, commissioned and fully furnished.

Allen disclosed that the Area Command complex and the Area Commander’s residence were equipped with DSTV and CCTV facilities.

He described Soname as a committed son of Ikenne and thanked him for supporting the community, while urging the police to strengthen their efforts to maintain security.

According to Allen, Ikenne already has a security network and a coordination centre where surveillance cameras are monitored. He said the new police facility should further strengthen security operations in the town.

“We expect more from the police because there is an adage that to whom much is given, much is expected. So, we expect the police to double their efforts to secure the place,” he said.
