Okanlawon, a member of Lagos state House of Assembly. He is a silent and unassuming achiever who gives his constituency, Kosofe 1, a quality representation. Hon Okanlawon is not new to service and politics in Lagos state.
He developed the spirit of communal participation early in life while attending community development associations and political meetings which prepared him for his political sojourn. Between 2009 and 2011, he ventured into private practice when he joined Taxation, Accountancy, Management & Consultancy Ltd as Zonal Manager.
Before then, he worked with the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) between 1991 and 2004 where he distinguished himself as an ardent hard worker and achiever. He has always been a part of the success story of the new Lagos instituted by Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu (between 1999 and 2007) and continues under Babatunde Raji Fashola (2007 to 2015) through to Akinwunmi Ambode (2015 to 2019 ) and now being pursued gloriously under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He retired voluntarily from the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service in 2004 and was first appointed Secretary to the Kosofe Local Government between 2004 and 2007. Between 2015 and 2019, he served as the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Food Security under whose watch Lake Rice, a joint venture between Lagos and Kebbi states was birthed. LAKE rice was and still is one of the most popular rice brands among Lagosians.
Hon Sanni Ganiyu. Babatunde Okanlawon attended Lagos State Polytechnic for his Ordinary National Diploma in Accounting1990 and his Higher National Diploma in Accounting from the same institution in the year 1998. He obtained a postgraduate diploma from the University of Calabar and a master’s in Business Administration from Lagos State University (LASU) in the year 2006. Hon Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde Okanlawon is a member of many professional bodies including The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) and Associate Member of Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered).
He contested and won the seat to represent Kosofe Constituency 1 at the Lagos state House of Assembly in 2019. Currently, Hon Okanlawon is the Chairman House Committee on Education (Ministry and Agencies) in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Today, Hon Okanlawon is making waves as the representative of Kosofe Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly. One of his pet projects is making the youths digital compliant which he has commenced by the delivery of an ICT centre in Emmanuel High Nursery and Primary School, he would be having a handshake with the likes of Zinox Technologies to deepen global digital exposure. Another of his pet projects is the establishment of Table Tennis Academy meant to address youth restiveness and also to provide another social-economy lifeline for the youth of the constituency.
OKLA Table Tennis Academy’s goal is to make world champions from this initiative. The other of his pet projects is the Awards of scholarship to students of higher institutions in Kosofe local government area to reduce the parent’s financial burden and help them to navigate the hardship; of humble backgrounds, while trying to secure a better future all geared towards building human capacity and engendering qualitative education.
Hon Sanni Okanlawon is happily married to Mrs. Halimat Ajoke Sanni blessed with lovely children.
