It took a long while and it came handsomely and Gbagada FC defeated BYT FC 3-1 in matchday four of the Nationwide League One campaign Ikenne Centre to earn their first win of the league. The win excited the coach and he was happy to share his opinion with Sports247.

“I feel very excited at this moment. The aim of this tournament is to win games, it took us four games to register our first win and I’m so happy because it’s not just a win but we played so well, controlling the game for the first 70minutes at least. Towards the end, they came back fighting but the most important thing is that we won the game and we played well,” Olajide said.

The win for the Lagos-based side came courtesy a hattrick from first-choice striker Peter Edema and the coach was quick to praise the quality of the lad.

“We’re not surprised at all. This is the second hattrick and it was just a matter of time. I remember telling fans to be patient with our attackers, we know what they can do and I’m happy he justified that by scoring three goals. He’s on four goals in four games and that’s excellent for a striker and he’s doing what we know he can do. No surprises here,” the coach said.

Speaking on the team’s chances to finish top of the group table, Akinyelu Olajide said “well as it is we’re looking at the log table but it’s really difficult mathematically for us to top the league but we reset our mindset after the last loss that we want to pick maximum points from the remaining five games we gave and we just started the process. Next is Emmydinho FC, they should watch out.”
