HABA, CRY YE NIGERIA.
Police Station don turn to bank, DPO na Bank Manager (That was a song Fela sang in the late 80ties and it’s worse off today in Nigeria.)
FBI took their time to do a 65 pages report on internet crime linking DCP Abba Kyari to convicted Ramoni Abass aka hushpuppi and typical of our criminal investigation strategy. Abba Kyari’s hurried defense is that hushpuppi misled him by lying that his friend Vincent Chibuzo, threatened his life. Pronto , he arrested the said Chibuzo without first investigating the claim, detained him for 30days and subsequently found out there was no threat, before releasing him. Yet the same person who lied to a Super Police Deputy Commissioner that should have been charged for perjury and lying to security agents, instead the police DCP became his fashion agent. Ahhhh, haba Kyari. You for look for another lie.
Anyway IGP don recommend him suspension, and Police Service Commission don accept the recommendation, let’s see how it turns out.
But whilst we are busy debating and passing comments on this watery Abba Kyari’s defense, which is systemic and ordinarily a daily occurrence in our national lives, both public and private. I cry yee instead for Nigeria.
If you have money and connections with the police in Nigeria, even the Inspector General of Police can lock up somebody for you. You can write a petition against anybody, contrary to the presumption of Innocence enshrined in the constitution, such person is immediately presumed guilty by the police and left to prove his innocence in police custody or prison. Mind you a lawyer will be paid to write the petition, whether civil or criminal, verified facts or frivolous. Those same lawyers will condemn Kyari today. I Cry thee for Nigeria
Today, whilst Abba Kyari would have used his office to punish and send some innocent people to jail, the relatives of kidnappers and armed robbers he also sent to jail would celebrate this revelation, after all, you fit argue am, say him no different from them.
Name the sector or institution in Nigeria that is spared the Kyari syndrome. Don’t we all use our positions to oppress others and enrich ourselves?
Some people even use the military to arrest and detain people over civil cases or real estate cases. It depend on who you know.
As elections are approaching in Anambra, every political party is enmesh in one frivolous court case or the other, and Senior lawyers will be paid to file such cases, while Judges will give conflicting orders and judgement. Same is replicated in the entire country during election. Abba Kyari Nigeria.
The Nigeria Custom is not different, as importer in legally allowed products will spend eternity to clear their goods, while the contraband are cleared without hassles. Since the custom officers are sure of their bribe.
The case of Immigration and passport renewal na long story, when we go come discuss another day. Not to talk of National Identity Management (NIM) registration.
Our banks send young girls (including married ladies) to go seek deposit, not minding how they get it done. While the rich depositors would want a piece of their body to patronize their banks, even though the money still na the depositors own.
How that one take different from Kyari.
Parents connive with schools and paid their way through for their kids to cheat in exams and we call it knowing your way. I cry for ye Nigeria.
The story of what happens daily in our public service nko, that can’t be discussed in one day, as people are charged exorbitantly for services that are supposedly free.
Hushpuppi was some people’s role model, with 2.5million followers on Instagram, including our home video stars and on air personalities, who celebrated him until he was caught. Nobody asked questions about his source of wealth, those that bothered to ask were shouted down as being jealous.
Invintus Obi was the toast of investment entrepreneur and a ready role model amongst the upwardly mobile in Nigeria, and was readily pointed to as a youth ambassador until he was bursted. People were called haters for daring to ask for his source of wealth.
People are given chieftaincy titles in Nigeria for showing up with money and nobody dared ask, watin him do to make such money. Some politicians even tell us say dem sell goat for university and then buy eatery for America and became super rich. People are praising him now, wait until he is Kyaried we go turn judge and jury.
A young boy in the Presidency is alleged to have millions of dollars in foreign currency and he claimed it was “dash” gift from people wanting to see the President. Some of us clapped and even hailed his ingenuity until the bubble burst someday, if e go burst.
When you are celebrated on social media for either participating in reality show and live a flashy life without a tangible means of livelihood, are you not hushpupping and Abba Kyaring?
While there are fraudulent people and criminals police world over, while others punish theirs mostly, we decorate ours until they are caught outside.
My Advocacy today is, let’s use this Abba Kyari’s case as a wake up call to review, rejuvenate and reinvent ourselves and our country Nigeria.
Let government take a wholistic look at our public institutions and ensure that hardwork and genuine merit is compensated and elevated over and above mediocrity. That way the private institutions will have no othe option but to shape up or get shipped out. You can’t underfund you institutions whilst recruitment, training and promotion are base on corruption, favoritism and nepotistic tendencies and expect your best to meet world standards.
Let there be appropriate sanctions and consequences for actions and inactions, whether in public or private life. That way, people will know they fraudulently push or beg their way through the system.
Let the youth know that this country can only be good if they decide to come together and take election seriously, by participating through the process.
It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it.
Nigeria will always be what we make of it. Thanks to all of you once again for your birthday wishes.
