Yesterday was a great Friday evening when I received a call from my friend, a good brother.
A man I met almost 31 years ago and we’re still together, communicating at least once weekly.
A crown prince from Kebbi State, he was posted to Ile-Ife during the Modakeke – Ife communal war. He was just a young police officer then.
Can you see how patriotic a Nigerian police officer can be?
He was a Northerner but drafted to the Southwest to maintain peace between two warring Yoruba communities.
It wasn’t just him. So many young officers left their families in different parts of the country to come to Ile-Ife. They were there to serve their fatherland.
The Rtd AIG zone 2, Abdullahi Kaltungo, Rtd CP Sunday Aghedo were also on the ground to supervise and coordinate their troops.
During the 1990 war between the Modakeke and Ife, many gallant officers paid the supreme price with their lives. May their souls rest in perfect peace. Amen.
So, yesterday, when I received the phone call from AIG Ibrahim Kaoje that he has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, I was overwhelmed with joy. And I asked myself, “Why me?
Why do I deserve this grace from God?”
All of my friends are doing well in their chosen fields. Is this not the blessing of God?
If you want to know how successful you are, check the lives of the people around you.
Thirty years ago, we never thought we would be where we are today. We don’t know where we will be tomorrow. But Allah knows what we don’t.
AIG John Abang, AIG Garba Umar, AIG Ibrahim Kaoje, AIG Aji Ali Janga, AIG Imohimi D. Edgal,
AIG Dasuki Galadanchi and all our friends who were just promoted to the rank of AIG,
I wish you all the best and more elevations to come in the name of God.
This is a lesson to some people who can’t keep friendships for a year.
Learn from us, a friend of thirty years is no longer a friend but a brother or sister.
