Odo Ogun Development: Lagos community takes protest to Sanwo-Olu’s office

Lagos’ community on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest to Lagos State Governor’s Office over alleged stoppage of Odo Ogun developmental project by the Office of Public-Private Partnerships.

The protesters, led by the group’s Coordinator, Mr. Ahmed Eshinlokun, urged Gov. Babajide to intervene for the developmental project to continue as planned.

The aggrieved descendants of Odo Ogun, hoisted customized model map banner with inscriptions such as “The Baales, Traditional Chiefs, Women, The youths and the entire Odo Ogun Community says We stand to develop our community”, also hoisted placards with various inscriptions to express their grievances.

Some inscriptions on their placards include “Governor Save Our Community”, We are tired of every year flood”, “Stop the intimidation we want Development”, and ”We want new Odo Ogun like Dubai and Allow our community to develop.”

In their petition submitted to the Office of the Governor, the group said that its Odo Ogun Community were in pain and suffering due to the alleged stoppage of the project by PPP.

“It will bring relief to our people and will bring a lot of benefits to the people and Government of Lagos State.”

Speaking to our correspondent during the demonstrations Eshinlokun, said,“The protest was informed as result of sudden halt of the ongoing developmental project at Odo Ogun. Some months back, we had that tahe Lagos State Executive Council had approved about 400 heactares for the investor to develop our community.”

“When Oyam dam and other dams are released the place is always flooded, but we seek hand of the Government and investors they come to our aid, and they are ready for development. On that process, after the approval some weeks back, we discovered that the project was halted.”

“We instructed our legal counsel to write the government to ask why the sudden halt, as we speak now any correspondence from the government.”

Governor Babajide Sanwoolu means well for the Development of the state, that’s why we are here to,’ save our souls for Sanwoolu come to our aid’ to let the development go on as planned.

Speaking further, he said the project will increase job opportunity and the effect will in turn increase the internal generated Revenue of Lagos State which will better the economic of the state and Nigeria.

Ogun Community communiqué commended the group for their peaceful demonstration to express their grievances.

“We are all stakeholders in the state and because you care, that’s why you are here. The Governor is a listening Governor, whatever the government does to improve condition is not only for you as you said, but it will improve generality of Nigeria. Lagosians are Nigeria.”

He assured the Odo Ogun Community that their grievances, complaints and observations has been noted, and the discussions will be forwarded to the Governor with the intention of meeting them at the point of their needs.
