Opinion: On Buhari and electricity generation in Nigeria

During President Buhari’s interview on Channel Tv, there is a particular aspect he referred to as ‘electricity generation in Nigeria.’

While I may not be an expert in that field, it is obvious that the President is speaking the mind of millions of Nigerians.

Take Eko Disco, for example, there is no gainsaying that the management of Eko Disco is a direct family of some of the ministers of President Jonathan’s cabinet.

Most of the contracts signed during Mr Jonathan’s tenure were either to the girlfriends or the kinsmen.

From my investigation, Eko Disco management has not invested a dime in the electricity contracts they won since 2014, despite the huge profits they are making from it.

We should not forget quickly, that during the PDP government, there was a time when the National Assembly was bribed with N17bn to pass a budget.

There was a time when Naira filled Ghana-Must-Go bags and was given to David Mark, the then Senate president, to screen Ministerial and Ambassadorial nominees.

There was a time when $16bn was invested in darkness.

There was a time when a $450m loan was spent on Abuja CCTV and not one was working.

There was a time when FG was borrowing to pay salaries.

There was a time when JAMB officials were milking our children dry only to later tell us that it was some mysterious snakes that were swallowing the money.

There was a time when a Chief of Defence Staff was taking N500m from our defence fund every month to his pocket while Boko Haram took over his home town in Adamawa state.

There was a time when the military had no weapon to confront terrorists but politicians were sharing military funds.

There was a time when big churches in the South-west acquired bomb detectors for fear of Boko Haram.

There was a time when N100bn was released for cattle ranching yet not a manger was built.

There was a time when the 2nd Niger Bridge was a mere campaign project in their PowerPoint.

There was a time when Governors were illegitimately removed by Aso Rock over trivial issues.

There was a time when a Governor was abducted with the backing of Aso Rock.

There was a time when billions were released to purchase stoves for rural women with not one unit purchased.

There was a time when plying the Lagos-Ibadan express road was hellish.

There was a time when a government spokesperson said there’s no way we could have a modern railway system and modern train.

There was a time when petrol attendants were our lord as we bought a litre for N600 and still had to bribe them.

I’m not saying Buhari led government is a saint, far from it. But the last government is far from being the type of government we deserve in Nigeria.

The panel behind the sale of NEPA to their homosexual partner must be investigated, named and shamed in the public.

Lagosians in Lekki Phase 1 are passing through unnecessary agony and daily exploitation from the management of EKO disco and I will continue to share my experience with President Buhari, his Chief of staff, Professor Gambari through any means of communication.

Meanwhile, I am using this opportunity to congratulate my professional colleague on the nomination as the new Chairman of the NNPC board, we should not be discouraged to keep informing Nigerians whenever we discover that something is not right.

The sensational caption of Buhari appointing an ex-armed robber as NNPC chairman did the magic as I was told.

We should not relent in doing our jobs without fear or favour. As long as we know that we are doing right and is nothing but the truth.

Acquisition of NEPA by EKO DISCO is a fraud and a trap set up to destroy Buhari’s image in the eyes of his teeming supporters.

No more no less.
