The agitators for North East presidency candidate for 2023 general election are just mere wishful thinkers.
The rotation arrangements was 8 years each for north and south. How Buhari a northerner will hand over power to another northerner in a democratic dispensation is unheard of and impracticable.
The southerners supporting north-east are a bunch of selfish people looking for bread and butter. Atiku himself said it before that the rotation arrangements is north & south. So what has changed to warrant the power remaining in the north.
Atiku himself was part of the team that did the arrangements prior to his becoming the Vice-president.
I sincerely hope that Mr Atiku Abubakar can face Nigerians to repudiate the agreement he was part of and personally involved in the making. It will be recalled that rotation presidency was one of the reasons Atiku objected to Presidential contest of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, which made him left PDP on the grounds of breach of agreement.
The best approach to the rotation issues is for the political practitioners to adopt the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) method of splitting Nigeria to the 3 post independent regions of East, North and West.
The North should be left to determine which of their geopolitical zones should produce the president, and the same should also be done in the south. The old Eastern region produced the last president from the south in the person of Dr Goodluck Azikiwe Ebele Jonathan.
It is therefore the turn of the old Western region to produce the next President. I understand the sentiments of our people from East geopolitical zone that equity demands that they should be allowed to produce the next President, but it is on record that their old region produced Dr Goodluck Jonathan that spent 6 years in office. I can’t imagine their old region producing 2 presidents within a rotational arrangement while the old West only had 8 years (Obasanjo), old North 10 years (Yaradua + Buhari) and old East 14 years (Jonathan + ????).
Mr Atiku Abubakar is out of the equations, except he wants to deny the arrangements he was part of and waste his money on political jobbers prodding him to contest. The moment any of the major political parties repudiate the rotation arrangements for the presidency, the public will know that such party cannot be trusted if they cannot keep to the terms of their own agreement. Then the issues of keeping to campaign promises does not arise from the party.
