Defamation: Rotimi Agunsoye lawyers demand retraction of allegation by Seun Salami

The Lawyers to Honourable Rotimi Agunsoye Representing Kosofe Federal Constituency area of Lagos, has given Seun Salami Kosofe seven days to retract what they call “defamatory and false publication” or face legal action.
It was discovered that Salami has alleged Honourable Rotimi Agunsoye, on SWAGA Ikosi Isheri WhatsApp group and Facebook that the lawmaker have informed his supporters not to associate with Ashiwaju Bola Tinubu (ABAT) presidential ambition Movement because of his affiliation with Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
He further alleged that the lawmaker gave one Mini Buses (Korope) to 3 people which was termed poverty alleviation, and also claimed he has never done anything good.
However, Honourable Rotimi Agunsoye during an interview with our correspondent on Friday disclosed that the allegations are untrue and false.
In the letter of demand seen by KosofePost, Niyi Olapade, of Rafatu Abayomi Chambers, titled “Publication of false, reckless and defamatory statements against Honourable Rotimi Agunsoye: Demand for immediate retraction and apology” asked the Seun Salami allegedly tobe behind the false information to retract the story and apologise in one national newsapers within seven days.
“We act as solicitor to Honourable Rotimi Agunsoye (herein reffered to as our “client”). On whose behalf and instructions we hereby write concerning the above referenced subject matter.”
“Our brief is that you deliberately made various inflammatory, reckless, untrue and defamatory statements about our client published in WhatsApp group” TMP SWAGA OSI/Isheri,” which you knew or ought to Know to be untrue and false.
“of notable reference is your publication of a rejoinder on the WhatsApp group purportedly written by Naija Reporters insinuating that Hon. Agunsoye’s support for and commitment to the presidential aspirantions of Ashiwaju Bola Tinubu has been on a decline because of his affiliation and allegiance to Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, whereas our client remains a committed and loyal supporters of Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) movement.”
“He gave 3 people one Korope and called it poverty alleviation; ROT has ever done anything good.”
“Ask your principal to tell us about the money he collected for NEPZA training 2 years ago and many of his Constituents benefitted.”
“Two bills in Almost 7 years is very disgraceful to the colective intelligence of the great..
Kosofe needs a better and cerebral representatives;
When a leader is given our common patrimony at Abuja and he takes some of it just to do paparazzi for us…; he failed woefully in the legislative mid-term report”.
“You also refered to our client as ” an expired product” shared various defamatory news article from a faceless group Kosofe Frontline that denigrated our client as ” a curse” to the Kosofe Constituency.
“Your statements and publications are calculated to bring our client to disrepute and lower his reputation in the eyes of ordinary thinking members of his Constituency and the society at large.”
In light of the above, we have our Client’s instruction to demand: (a) An immediate retraction by you of all these false statements and publication which call the loyal as well as the physical and Electoral competence of our clients to question, (b) an unreserved apology to our client regarding the said false, reckless and malicious statements, (c)the retractions and public apology must be published by you in the”TPM SWAGA IKOSI/Isheri,” WhatsApp group and in a National newsaper
“Please take notice that where our Client’s request is not met within seven days of your receipt of this letter, our Client will be constrained to seek legal redress against you, without further recourse to you.
“You have been adequately notified.”
