Two docked over alleged theft of N2.8m phones

Two men – Kehinde Kujoro, 46; and Bright Asemota, 39, on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cell phones worth N2.8 million.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are standing trial on a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, breach of peace and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 2 at New Garage, Ojota, Lagos.

Bassey stated that the defendants maliciously damaged a bag containing 11 packs of itel phones belonging to the complainant, Paul Ochulor.

He said that the defendants also stole 33 pieces of itel S17 and 34 pieces of itel  P37 phones valued at N2, 839,600 belonging to the complainant.

He said the offences contravened sections 168, 287, 350 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate,  A.O. Daodu, granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She said one of the sureties for each of the defendants must be a blood relation.

She adjourned the case until April 11, for hearing.
