The Child Protection Network Kosofe Chapter on Friday, May 27 organised a symposium to commemorate International Children’s Day.
The programme, themed “Raising Globally Minded Children”, was held at the Roundabout Gardens, Ogudu, Kosofe Local Government area.
Several guardian counselors and NGOs were present to enlighten the children and make the day memorable. Some of the NGOs under Child Protection Network Kosofe include MaryPearl Initiatives For Youth and Family, Children & Community Protection Network, and Progressive Widows Initiative of Lagos respectively.
Barrister Imoleayo Adesanya was the Keynote Speaker at the event.
CPN Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Ronke Oyelakin, DSVRA, and representatives of Area H Police command among others, attended the programme.
While speaking about the program with the Pressmen, Kosofe CPN Coordinator, Barrister (Mrs) Olaoluwa Akinremi, described the children as God’s heritage that should be celebrated.
He noted that children are the future leaders, which requires a well-laid foundation.
She explained further that the children were brought together in order to not be limited to their environment and locality.
“We don’t want them to be limited to their environment or their locality. They should be able to think beyond the scope of where they are or the school they’re attending currently.”
She continues, “We have had encounters of students winning scholarships to universities such as Harvard, Oral Roberts, and Liverpool, and they are children from a poor background who are doing well in the diaspora.”
She added that the children are being exposed through the symposium to think beyond their present level so that they can be able to relate to other children from other continents when they find themselves in the global community.
“We are raising Kosofe children to compete globally,” she said.
She urged parents not to kill the dreams the group was trying to inculcate in the children.
She enjoined them not to entertain any fear over their financial status, saying that once children are globally raised, the global community will call for them.
Earlier, the Peculiar Queen Global Foundation, in partnership with CPN, and others, organized a week-intensive master class for the youths on introduction to child rights in Lagos State and Advocacy, art of public speaking, real estate investment policy, leadership and business ethics, and a certificate was presented at the children’s celebration.
