Woman allegedly sponsors boyfriend’s UK trip with employer stolen funds granted bail

A 27-year-old woman, identified as Busayo Alagbe, has been charged with faking bank documents and stealing her company, Bridgeway Ventures, of N4.5m in Lagos State.Information Guide Nigeria

Alagbe was indicted on three counts related to the conversion of employer funds, theft, and forgery.

The prosecution, Godwin Oriabure, stated that the defendant committed the offence in the Gbagada region of the state between July and November 2022. During interrogation, she admitted to using the stolen funds to pay for her boyfriend’s trip to the United Kingdom.

Oriabure informed the court that the offense violated and was punishable under Section 287(b) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.NYSC portal

The charge read in part, “That you, Busayo Alagbe, between July and November 2022, at no 17 Olujobi Street, Gbagada Estate, Lagos, in the Yaba Magisterial District, did fraudulently convert the sum of Four-Million Five Hundred and Thirty One Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty Naira, property of Olayinka Blackshear and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

The defendant pled not guilty to the allegations against him.

A.O. Salawu granted the defendant bail in the amount of N1 million with two suitable sureties and adjourned the case until January 19, 2023.JAMB Result
