No fewer than 200 children enjoyed a special treat during the ‘Feed the Hungry/Christmas party’ organised by the Anthony Village Diamond Lions Club, under District 404A1 for kids in Anthony Village Community, Lagos, weekend.

The Club President Lion Aisha Oyiza, NLCF, explained that the event was the outcome of a meeting with her executive on the way forward and implementation plan of one of Lion’s core projects to stop hunger.
Other areas of lion’s core focus are Sight, paediatric cancer, Diabetes and the Environmental.
She said the club’s future areas of service include eye screening and sponsorship of free surgery for those with Cataracts. This is scheduled for January 2023.

The Anthony Village Diamond Lions club provided food, such as rice and protein, soft drinks, water and other Christmas gift items to celebrate with the children. The outstanding thing with the service is that there was fun for all the children without exception.
The club invited children on the street, danced and played with them which is a show of her love, care and selfless service to humanity.

Giving reasons the Club chose to feed the children instead of providing free medical screening, and drugs, Oyiza said, “Charity is one of Lions Club’s core service area is to feed the hungry, I was motivated to join the Club because its vision aligns with mine. Research shows that most sicknesses that people suffer from is as a result of not eating adequate and nutritious food. That is why we prefer to provide food. This is because if you give children medicines without nutritious food, how will the medicines function well in their bodies.”

Lion Ruth Abure NLCF, First Vice President, Anthony Village Diamond Lions Club explained further that Anthony Village was chosen because it is the location of their District. “Charity begins at home and we want children in Anthony Village to benefit from this show of love before we take it to another place. If we do not give to the children in Anthony Village, how will we be able to provide for others in other neighbourhoods?”
“We have donated some facilities to this community and we hope to donate more as a show of love to serve humanity in line with one of the slogans of Lions Club which says, “Where there’s need, there is Lion,” she added.
