The Kosofe Post reports that the Local Council earlier suspended road construction and assured residents that immediately the rainwater drainage system will be cleared across Kosofe.

Several residents, business owners, and vendors who spoke with our correspondent during the week decried the eyesore drainage within the community and called for urgent intervention.

Gaddafi Umar from Silvia Crescent said, “They should come and help us because we have tried a lot on our own. We couldn’t make it. And so there are people who can come and do it, and they paid money. But those people, for whom we don’t have the money yet, are charging, like, N35,000 for the community.

He noted that the community has been responsible for clearance every time. saying, “But this time is somehow blocked, but the blockage we don’t know about because we have tried our best.”

He said for the past three days they have been trying to fix a broken pipe inside the gutter, but they haven’t been able to do it. “It’s still zero; we can’t do it. It’s just for them to come and support us or something like that. There’s a lot of dirt in that gutter,” Gaddafi said.

A newspaper vendor by Bola Street and Anthony Village Road Junction, Ms. Florence Ogechi, said that during the rainy season, dirt flows directly from the gutters onto major roads, destroying the road and affecting the free flow of traffic.

She appealed to the government to use the opportunity of the drying season to improve the drainage system within the community.

The affected areas’ Community Development Association Chairman, Mr. Olalekan Odujrin, Councilor representing Anthony Village, and Leader in Council, Honourable Idowu Oloro, declined to comment.

At press time, the calls and messages sent to Kosofe Local Government Chairman, Head of Public Affairs Unit, and Chief Press Secretary to the Council Chairman had yet to be replied to.
