He made the call while speaking to the Kosofe Post at the maiden edition of the ETO Foundation colloquium 2023, held in Lagos.

He noted the endsars issue left a very bitter tale for Nigerians. Adding that it’s time the youths are not seen as “youths,” but as the leaders we say they are, and it’s time for them to take their place in politics and in society generally.

“The way things are, it’s very terrible, I said in my speech. Recently, when I had my baby, I looked around. I want to give her the best, but looking at the society where we are, with the injustice, insecurity, and high cost of foodstuffs, and the suffering of the masses, has revived something in me, a need for me to stand up and do something together with a group of people,” Obiwon said.

He urged the youths to rise and make the change count. Further Noting: “We must change the way things are being done in politics, and the people who are at the helm of affairs now sincerely need to be changed. The youth need to be heard.”

Obiwon laments that the political structure and system of governance make it very costly for youth to become leaders and calls for urgent solutions among young Nigerians.

He said, “The structure makes it very hard for the youth to come in and get involved in politics and leadership. Because there’s a lot of financial commitment they will have to make if they want to participate in politics, for instance, it’s very difficult for an average youth to be able to buy a nomination form (ticket). How can you buy a ticket for N20 million? Where will you find the money? So those structures need to be dealt with. If we are serious about teaching leadership to the youth, then something needs to be done about the structure and the system of governance.”
