Former PDP Members Reveal Reasons for Defection to APC

Several members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have revealed their reasons for switching sides. The defection took place ahead of the recently concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.

One of the defectors, Alhaji Welly Hassan, who was the former PDP Deputy Chairman, had promised to make an official announcement about his defection after he was sighted with APC stakeholders alongside his wife, Hon. Sherifat Olushola Hassan, a two-time PDP flagbearer for Kosofe Federal Constituency in 2015 and 2019 respectively. Hassan was seen monitoring the collation exercise till midnight of February 26 at the INEC Local Government Collation Centre, Anglican Primary School, Ogudu.

Others who have defected to the APC include Kosofe PDP LGA Youth leader, Adeyemi Kazeem, former Ward B Ifako-Gbagada Youth leader, Ilori Dare, Tiamiyu Adekola, Kosofe constituency 2 PDP House of Assembly aspirant, Donald Tambi, Mrs. Arowolo Esther, and Idwou.

One of the outspoken youths who resigned his PDP membership shortly after the Presidential election, Adenuga Babajide Alaba, said that he had retracted his steps back to the APC to align with Kosofe Local government Chairman on a progressive mission. Alaba had posted on social media about his decision to leave the PDP, saying “IṢẸ TI YATỌ BAYI O. I have finally retrace my step now back with the white lion of Kosofe Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe on a progressive mission.”

Alaba also said in another post, “PDP final burial on Lagos soil on Saturday 11th March 2023. I only witness their death but will never partake in their final burial. Ire o.”

Many PDP members have defected to the APC and its flagbearers ahead of the elections, while some are working for Social Democratic Party candidate, Lanre Carew, and other opposition parties at the detriment of PDP flagbearer for Kosofe constituency 1 House of Assembly, Owoaje Gabriel Babasola. The defections are a significant setback for the PDP, which had hoped to make significant gains in the elections.
