The recent collapse of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) structure in Lagos State has increased the chances of Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, the APC Candidate for Lagos State House of Assembly, Kosofe I, emerging victorious in the forthcoming gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections.

Reports indicate that the collapsed SDP structure in Lagos State will also affect the chances of Lanre Carew, the SDP Candidate for Kosofe I.

The SDP Lagos State Chairman, Miss Dabiraoluwa Adeyinka, and some executive members have decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Adeyinka, leading about 15 other party executives to the main opposition party on Monday, said that the decision was based on personalities with the tickets of the PDP in the state.

Other major candidates contesting in the Kosofe I constituency are Mr. Owoaje Gabriel Babasola of PDP, Mr. Akintunde Osikominu of LP, and Mrs. Kudirat Balogun of NNPP.

However, hundreds of SDP members in Kosofe had shown support for Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term bid and Okanlawon’s second term bids, arguing that once good turns deserved another term and that the lawmaker had performed excellently well to be returned as their representative in the Kosofe Constituency.

Okanlawon, in his campaign message to his constituents, promised to provide better representation if elected in the forthcoming March 18 House of Assembly election. The incumbent lawmaker noted that his first term had been eventful and productive in the realm of providing infrastructure and social welfare for his constituency.

“I have embarked on several projects for my constituency, which is in the realm of what I called practical empowerment, such as giving them jobs. As the Chairman, House of Assembly on Education, I gave jobs to over 78 job seekers in my constituency as teachers and non-teaching staff in different secondary and tertiary institutions,” he said.

Okanlawon added that he had facilitated the establishment of a fire station in Berger to stem fire disasters and had also provided small scale support schemes to traders.

He stated that he had moved several motions, sponsored motions, and also co-sponsored motions, with two bills already passed into law to his credit.

He appealed to his constituency to give him another opportunity to serve them in the Lagos Assembly, saying that he deserved another four years of representing the good people of Kosofe because one good turn deserved another.

He expressed his confidence in being given the opportunity to represent his constituency once again come March 18.
