Residents of Agboyi Ketu, Kosofe area of Lagos State can now breathe a sigh of relief as the abandoned waste from the desilted drainage system along the BRT Terminal, Mile 12 under bridge, has finally been evacuated. The waste had been left unattended for too long, causing an eyesore and posing a health hazard to commuters, motorists, road users, and traders alike.
Ahead of the rainy season, the dirt was removed from the BRT Terminal drainage, but it was not evacuated for some time. As a result, the sight of refuse in the area became appalling, prompting residents to cry out to the Lagos State Government, Ministry of Environment, and Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the government agency responsible for maintaining the BRT corridor.
After receiving the complaints from residents, LAMATA swung into action and evacuated the waste, bringing much-needed relief to the area’s residents. A reporter from the Kosofe Post confirmed the evacuation on March 28, sending in pictures and videos of the area.
Residents expressed their gratitude to LAMATA and the Lagos State Government for responding to their complaints and taking prompt action. They also appealed to the authorities to ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future.
The evacuation of the waste from the desilted drainage system is a testament to the Lagos State Government’s commitment to ensuring a clean and healthy environment for its citizens. It is hoped that this action will encourage more people to take responsibility for their waste and dispose of it properly to prevent a recurrence of this situation.
