Labour Party candidate, Akinwande Osikominu, has filed a petition against the incumbent lawmaker representing Kosofe constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, and 2023 APC candidate, Hon. Sanni Ganiu Okanlawon, following the just-concluded House of Assembly election.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission’s announcement, Okanlawon of the APC polled 11,649 votes, while Osikominu Akinwande of the Labour Party got 11,563 votes, and Lanre Carew of SDP scored 7,242 votes.

When contacted by Kosofe Post (KP), Osikominu confirmed that he had not sent a congratulatory message to the Lawmaker-elect, Okanlawon, and instead filed his petitions before the National and State House of Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Lagos.

Osikominu alleged overvoting in some polling units across Kosofe constituency 1.

The SDP candidate, Lanre Carew, who came third in the race, disclosed that he would not be filing any petition.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Mr. Okanlawon Sanni, shortly after he was declared the winner, extended the hand of fellowship to defeated opposition at the poll and invited them to join hands with him.

The outcome of the petition filed by Osikominu against Okanlawon will be determined by the tribunal in the coming days. Until then, the incumbent lawmaker representing Kosofe constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly will have to wait for confirmation of his victory.
