The completion of a multi-million naira abandoned public library at Emmanuel High School in the Ojota area of Kosofe will be a birthday gift to former Kosofe Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Sofola. The library project has been left abandoned at foundation casting level for over two years after the contractor reportedly mobilized with about 15 million naira for its construction.

According to residents who spoke with the Kosofe Post, the former chairman left several ongoing projects, including a recently completed customary court, block of classrooms, and road projects. They urged the current council chairman to complete his predecessor’s legacy projects before embarking on new ones.
The contractor allegedly abandoned the library project at the foundation casting level, and some of the reinforcement bar and building materials have been stolen. The Kosofe Head of Information Units and the Chief Press Secretary to the Council Chairman, Taiwo Fadipe, did not respond to Kosofe Post inquiries about the matter.
Hon. Babatunde Sofola’s birthday gift comes as residents call for the completion of the abandoned library and other legacy projects. They believe that the government must continue the work started by previous administrations for the benefit of the community.

1. In respect of who abandoned and who should have completed it, I think government needs to prioritize project as a matter of it’s importance to the growth and development of our community and citizenry. We need to encourage our dozing youth in the area of Education, all the read now is their smart phones, learning what is not, learning what can destroy their future! A well equiped Library can engage them better. While growing up on Lagos island, we there not miss CMS Library daily, after breakfast, you proceed to the library! That’s was where we learned and develop our reading culture. I appeal to the local government Chairman to help look into it, it will be of great importance to our Kosofe as a whole and a plus to the Chairman’s achievement. ‘

2. Definitely, this will be a welcome change for us in the line to promote literacy in all our local communities, especially the schools.
We have been doing all we can in our little capacity to reignite the culture of reading and reading skill to our youth. We created a bookclub in many schools that allows us to do so, this is just to help them learn and develop their skills in communication and to increase the quality of reading while in primary to secondary school before going to college. Many are unable to express themselves or write a constructive essay. In fact this move will be a legacy for any one of the chairmen who can take education of this community serious.
At TOS Educational Foundation, we will work sincerely with anyone interested to embark on this project.

3. The Local Government Chairman should partner with private organizations instead of abandoning the Library Project. *Afolake Taoheed*
4. Policy makers should develop the habit of continuing from where their predecessors stopped. Governance is continuum and projects of any form are for the benefits of the citizens. Public library if completed will serve all reading public, research purposes etc. ( Omo’ba Awofeso Rasheed ololade)
I don’t think it is wise to abandon any project meant for the people and the development of a community.
Uncompleted projects are not personal properties of any predecessor. If the project is for the people, it should be completed by the current administration and let the people benefit from it.
As regards Kosofe, I know the current Chairman is working hard and I trust him to do the needful. He has completed some of the uncompleted projects left by his predecessor, so let’s give him time.
