Kosofe Constituency 1 in Lagos State has missed out on the opportunity to secure the Deputy Speaker position as the lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly unanimously re-elected Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker for the third consecutive time, making him the first lawmaker in the state to achieve this feat.

In a historic move, Obasa’s re-election to the house leadership seat for the third time solidifies his status as a seasoned and influential figure within the assembly. The announcement came following the proclamation of the 10th Assembly of the Lagos State House of Assembly by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was present alongside Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and other top government officials at the chamber of the House.

The assembly members also elected a female colleague, Mojisola Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, as the Deputy Speaker. This appointment signifies a positive step toward gender inclusivity in the state’s legislative branch.

However, it was a disappointing outcome for Hon. Sanni Ganiu Okanlawon, the lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 1, as his bid for the Deputy Speaker seat fell short in the intense race. Despite his efforts and support, he was unable to secure the position in the highly competitive 10th Assembly.

The race for the leadership positions within the Lagos State House of Assembly is always keenly contested, with lawmakers vying to hold influential roles and contribute to the development and governance of the state. Although Kosofe Constituency 1 did not achieve their desired outcome this time, their representative’s participation and advocacy will continue to play a vital role in shaping the legislative landscape of Lagos State.
