Mayor Dele Oshinowo, the Executive Chairman of Agboyi Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos, has unveiled a robust educational support initiative in an effort to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy effects.
Under the “Welift Educational Support Drive,” the council administration has distributed free GCE (General Certificate of Education) forms to indigent students within the council, showcasing a commitment to empowering the community’s young scholars.
The Kosofe Post recently reported that Mayor Dele Oshinowo’s administration embarked on a multi-faceted approach to provide essential support to residents. The distribution of prepaid Cowry Cards, food packages to 6000 households, and now the distribution of free GCE forms demonstrate the council’s dedication to fostering well-being and educational opportunities.
Addressing the students during the presentation ceremony held at the Council Secretariat, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, represented by Vice Chairman Mrs. Folake Kayode, emphasized the catalytic role of education in sustainable development. He underscored that education is the conduit through which lasting progress is achieved, and every effort must be made to ensure that all individuals willing to learn have the opportunity to do so.
“As part of our empowerment and welfare programs, our administration is committed since inception to making it a duty to support the dreams and aspirations of our young scholars who seek to further their higher education in their chosen disciplines,” Mayor Dele Oshinowo emphasized.
Speaking to the press, Mayor Dele Oshinowo highlighted the enduring significance of the program. Notably, this initiative has been sustained over the years, primarily focusing on indigent students who lack the financial means to support their educational pursuits. He stressed that the distribution of free GCE forms opens doors of opportunity for underprivileged students to take their exams and pursue their dreams.
The 250 beneficiaries of the free GCE forms underwent a thorough screening process to ensure that the support reaches those who need it the most. Mayor Dele Oshinowo’s administration encourages the recipients to work diligently and excel in their studies, as their success contributes to the community’s pride and growth.
Comrade Wale Olorode, Head of Department, Education, Agboyi Ketu LCDA, emphasized that education serves as a guiding light and a key to success. The distribution of free forms aims to provide relief to indigenous students and residents, granting them access to GCE forms without financial barriers.
Olorode stressed the importance of performing excellently in the exams, as the achievement of the students directly reflects the high standards of the local government. Beneficiaries, like Akpan Promise, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to sit for the examination without financial constraints, acknowledging that this gesture means a lot to them and their families who might not have been able to afford the form.
