Egbin Power Invests in Education with Scholarships for Host Communities

Egbin Power Plc, Nigeria’s largest power generation company, continues to demonstrate its commitment to education and the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) by awarding scholarships to students in its host communities. This year marks the 8th edition of the scholarship program, which aims to promote academic excellence and inclusive, quality education.

The scholarship awards were presented to beneficiaries from public schools in the host communities of Egbin, Ijede, and Ipakan. The scholarships cover all school expenses, including tuition, textbooks, school uniforms, and other educational materials.

Mokhtar Bounour, the Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, emphasized the importance of education in societal development and human capital growth. He stated that education is the foundation of progress and development and is vital for nurturing future leaders. Bounour reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting quality education in line with SDG 4, which focuses on ensuring equitable access to quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Bounour said, “Education is a child’s right, as it strengthens the developmental capacities of individuals, communities, groups, institutions, and countries. That is why we have instituted this scholarship program to achieve rapid development in our host communities.”

Abimbola Akinbiyi, one of the scholarship recipients, expressed her gratitude for being selected and praised Egbin Power for encouraging students to excel in education. Her father, Mr. Mark Akinbiyi, also commended the company, community leaders, and teachers for their support.

Another recipient, Ridwanullahi Sharafa, applauded Egbin Power for creating opportunities to support students through scholarships.

The Principal of Powerfield Group of Schools (College), Mrs. Folahanmi Adesina, commended Egbin Power Plc for recognizing and nurturing talent in the community through the scholarship program. She also acknowledged the company’s continuous support to the beneficiaries and its positive impact on the school.

Head Teacher of Powerfield Group of Schools (Elementary), Olufunke Winful, praised Egbin Power for investing in the students’ future and bringing joy to teachers and parents. She reaffirmed the school’s commitment to guiding and monitoring the students to ensure their academic success.

The selection process for the 2023 scholarship program involved verification, pre-tests, boot camps, and final selection stages conducted by Gazelle Business Solutions, an independent entity with extensive experience in scholarship project implementation. Successful candidates gained admission to Powerfield Group of Schools, located within the premises of Egbin Power in Ijede, Ikorodu, offering quality education from nursery to secondary levels, including both day and boarding schools.
