On Sunday, sports enthusiasts and the Honorable Member representing Kosofe Constituency 01 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, graced the finals of the maiden edition of the Chairman’s Cup. This exciting tournament was organized and generously sponsored by the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. (Barr.) Moyosore Ogunlewe. The event took place at Emmanuel Primary School in Ojota, Lagos, from September 16th to 17th, 2023.
The Chairman’s Cup not only celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship but also promoted discipline, character development, and the enhancement of young talents. It provided a platform for nurturing the sporting abilities of youths while fostering unity and harmony among the constituents of Kosofe Local Government.
In the thrilling final match, the Ojota football team emerged victorious by defeating Oworo B football team with a score of 2-1, securing the coveted golden trophy and a cash prize of one million naira (N1,000,000). The second-placed team, Oworo B, was rewarded with a prize of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000). Meanwhile, the Oworo A football team displayed their prowess by clinching the third place title and a cash reward of two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N250,000).
The Chairman’s Cup drew a diverse and enthusiastic crowd, including dignitaries, community leaders, traditional rulers, residents from various communities, past and present political officeholders, sports aficionados, and members of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, in his congratulatory remarks, commended the organizers for the success of the tournament and pledged to continue supporting young athletes in honing their sporting talents. The event not only showcased the athletic prowess of the youth but also emphasized the importance of unity and community engagement within Kosofe Local Government.
