Ta’awun Political Forum Celebrates Nigeria’s Independence Day by Empowering Youths for a Better Future

In commemoration of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day, The Ta’awun Political Forum Kosofe/Ikeja Local Governments organized a workshop with a focus on educating and empowering the country’s youth. The event, themed “Nigeria at 63: Youths Socio-political Roles Towards Better Future,” and its sub-theme, “Nigeria @ 63: Youths & Crime Prevention for Better,” drew participants from various sectors, including schools, students, parents, lawyers, youths, and the Nigerian Police.

Mr. Taiwo Lasisi. Y, the President of Ta’awun Ikeja and Kosofe Local Governments, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the forum’s objectives. He emphasized the need for strong institutions, investments in manpower, and a positive shift in public attitudes towards politics and governance. The workshop aimed to prepare members for civic responsibilities and promote socio-political dividends for the community.

Taiwo outlined Ta’awun NGO’s various initiatives, including health programs, free education support, empowerment projects, and charitable contributions to society. He noted that the forum’s activities date back to 2020/2021 when they actively mobilized for local government elections and the presidential election, supporting the current Kosofe Local Government administration and Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential bid.

Despite their impactful programs, Taiwo acknowledged that Ta’awun faced challenges, including a lack of cooperation from hosting communities, limited resources, and government support. He appealed to government representatives and religious leaders for sponsorship and assistance in executing life-changing projects.

Religious leaders were encouraged to use their platforms to promote unity, love, support for government, and humanity. Taiwo urged youth to reject political bitterness, religious violence, thuggery, and vandalism of public property.

The workshop featured interactive sessions focusing on independence, growth, development, and discussions on crime prevention. The Area H Police Command, represented by Supol Raji Umaru, highlighted the importance of discipline, avoiding negative peer influences, and maintaining godly values. He clarified that while raiding is constitutional for crime prevention, bail should always be free.

Ikosi Isheri LCDA Chairman, represented by Hon. Yunusa Salami, acknowledged the challenges and opportunities facing Nigeria’s youth. He emphasized that empowering the younger generation is crucial for the country’s socio-political landscape. The chairman advocated for crime prevention through education, mentorship, and constructive activities.

A participant, Kaba Theophilus, a student of Ideal Crystal School, expressed how the workshop enlightened him about politics, democracy, diversity, and the importance of reducing corruption. He called for unity in addressing the nation’s flaws, believing it could lead Nigeria to greater heights.

The workshop aimed to empower and educate the youth, nurturing them to become responsible citizens who can contribute to a more prosperous and peaceful Nigeria.
