Lagos State House of Assembly Strongly Condemns Attack on Rivers State House of Assembly Chamber

The Lagos State House of Assembly has unequivocally condemned the recent incident that saw the Rivers State House of Assembly chamber set ablaze. During a plenary session held on Tuesday, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, a distinguished representative of Kosofe Constituency 01 and Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Administration and Community Affairs, passionately supported the motion to denounce this act of violence.

In a powerful and emotional statement, Hon. Okanlawon characterized the incident as nothing short of “shameful,” “barbaric,” and “condemnable.” He expressed deep concern over the intrusion of the Rivers State governor into the House of Assembly, emphasizing that such actions only exacerbate an already grave situation.

The iconic lawmaker stressed the paramount importance of recognizing the pivotal role that parliaments play in upholding and sustaining our democracy. These legislative bodies serve as fundamental pillars of governance, where laws are thoughtfully debated and passed, and where the voices of the people are diligently represented. Any act that undermines the sanctity and functionality of the legislature poses a significant threat to the very foundation of our democratic system.

Hon. Okanlawon went on to state that in the face of such challenges, unity among lawmakers and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law are absolutely essential to preserving our democratic values and institutions.
