In a response to a circulating indigenship letter purportedly issued by Lagos Island Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Prince Tijani Adetoyese Olusi, has vehemently disclaimed the document, labeling it as a forgery in a joint press statement with Vice Chairman, Prince Muhammed Rosul Eshilokun.
The statement, released on Wednesday, firmly stated, “The letter in question is a forgery and is not an authorized document from our office.” Lagos Island Local Government emphasized its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and diligence in all administrative processes, including the issuance of indigenship letters.
“We operate with transparency and merit, ensuring the authenticity of all documents. Indigenship letters are issued based on merit, supported by evidence from White Cap Chiefs and family records within the local government,” the statement continued.
The public was urged to exercise caution and discernment when presented with any official documentation. Lagos Island Local Government encouraged individuals with doubts about the authenticity of documents to reach out to their official channels for verification.
Chairman Moyosore Ogunlewe of Kosofe Local Government, contacted regarding a similar incident, revealed that fraudsters claimed to have procured indigenship letters from his local government for enlistment in the Nigeria Army recruitment. This disclosure came with a video evidence response showcasing the extent of the forgery.
As concerns rise over fraudulent activities surrounding indigenship letters, both local governments emphasized their dedication to upholding trust, transparency, and accountability. Residents are urged to verify documents directly with the respective local government offices to ensure legitimacy.
