A concerned resident of Kosofe Local Government area in Lagos State, Mr. Rasheed Awofeso, has called on fellow residents to take ownership of public facilities within their locality, citing the recent vandalization of crucial infrastructure.
Mr. Awofeso voiced his concerns during an interview with the Kosofe Post, emphasizing the need for communities to actively participate in safeguarding public assets. He specifically highlighted the alarming state of features on pedestrian bridges and bridge barriers under the supervision of the Lagos State Government.
Awofeso stated, “LASG agencies in charge of public utilities, including those on pedestrian bridges, must address the ongoing issues. As depicted in the accompanying picture, the aftermath of a road incident around Olopomeji in December 2023 has left the Aluminium guide hanging dangerously, posing risks to pedestrians and potential hazards for scavengers who may soon exploit the fallen rails.”
While acknowledging the government’s efforts in providing an affordable university system in Nigeria, others interviewed by this medium emphasized the importance of well-equipped public schools and primary healthcare centers, coupled with an adequate workforce. They highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach to public service, ensuring that essential facilities are not only established but also properly maintained for the benefit of the community.
