Kosofe Federal Constituency witnesses a recurring trend as major opposition parties, including Labour Party, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and People’s Democratic Party (PDP), continue to shirk their duties post-2023 elections.

In a sequence mirroring their electoral performances, the Labour Party claimed victory in the Presidential election but faces internal crises, using its platform as a mere political statement vehicle. Almost uprooting the APC stronghold in Kosofe Constituency 1, the party lost controversially by less than 100 votes.

Meanwhile, SDP, previously utilized as a Special Utility Vehicle by some APC members, has witnessed reconciliation as these members returned after unsuccessful attempts. This move highlights the party’s transient nature, serving as a means to an end rather than a stable political force.

The PDP, grappling with the aftermath of a woeful 2023 performance, is yet to establish a truth conciliation mechanism. Recent revelations from Prince Debo Adesina, a party aspirant for Kosofe Constituency LAHA, exposed internal turmoil, with uncensored allegations against the party’s LGA Chairman and others.

Despite persistent challenges – internal strife, members’ depletion, and election mismanagement – the opposition parties in Kosofe seem indifferent to public concerns. Mandated reporters, opinion leaders, and even disgruntled APC members have stepped in as the de facto voice for the voiceless, while opposition parties appear dormant, awaiting the next election cycle.

As the opposition’s influence wanes, Kosofe residents question the commitment of these parties to good governance, with their fleeting interest and passion quickly fading away until the next election season.
