A 40-year-old estate agent, Solomon Olakunle, found himself in legal trouble as he appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Monday. The charges against Olakunle stem from allegations of defrauding an accommodation seeker of N700,000.

Olakunle, a resident of Igbogbo area in Ikorodu, Lagos State, is facing two counts of obtaining under false pretences and stealing by conversion.

According to the prosecutor, Insp Donjour Perezi, the defendant committed the alleged offences between January 5 and January 10 at Mile 12, Lagos. Perezi revealed that Olakunle purportedly obtained the sum of N700,000 from the complainant, Afolabi Sofia, under the guise of renting out a one-bedroom flat to him.

Trusting the defendant, Sofia transferred the hefty sum into Olakunle’s First bank account. However, the promised accommodation never materialized, leaving Sofia out of pocket and without the accommodation he had anticipated.
