Lagos State Assembly Commends First Quarter Performance of State Budget

The Lagos State House of Assembly has lauded the initial performance of the state budget for the year, following a comprehensive assessment conducted by the House Committee on Finance at the Ministry of Finance.

In a report covered by Lagos Television News and monitored by our correspondent, the State Assembly, through the House Committee on Finance chaired by Hon Femi Saheed, embarked on a visit to the Ministry of Finance to evaluate the progress of the state’s fiscal plan.

During the visit, Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, alongside other top officials of the ministry, welcomed the House delegation and provided insights into the activities of the ministry thus far.

“We are responsible for financial matters in Lagos State, including formulating financial policies and managing financial resources. Our goal is to surpass budget expectations to ensure the state can fund all its expenditures and deliver dividends of democracy to the people,” expressed Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi.

Hon Femi Saheed, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, expressed satisfaction with the financial performance of the ministry, emphasizing the importance of legislative oversight to ensure optimal budget utilization.

“With the impressive fund generation recorded for the first quarter of the year, we are encouraged by the budget performance. The Ministry is fulfilling its mandate, and we, as legislators, are committed to monitoring expenditures for optimal performance,” assured Hon Femi Saheed.

Mr. Abiodun Muritala, the Accountant-General of the State, reiterated that no Ministry, Department, or Agency (MDA) can claim delay in fund disbursement, as the Governor promptly approves all funds, ensuring swift disbursement.

Mrs. Rukayat Alake-Sanusi, the Permanent Secretary of the Debt Management Office, highlighted the ministry’s proactive approach to project monitoring, ensuring that contractors are closely supervised to prevent work abandonment.

Among the lawmakers present during the visit were Hon Desmond Elliot, Hon Moshood Aro, Hon Abiodun Orekoya, and Hon Olusegun Adebisi.
