In the buildup to the July 2025 Local Government elections, Honourable Abiodun Ogungbo has solidified his position as a leading contender for the role of Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area in Lagos State. This comes as significant political shifts have unfolded due to an ongoing amendment of the Local Government administrative law by the Lagos State House of Assembly, which disallows elections in the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state. Consequently, Ogungbo and several other candidates have shifted their ambitions to the larger Kosofe Local Government.

Ogungbo, who previously vied for political office in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, has showcased his comprehensive experience and detailed plans to residents of Kosofe, promising to sustain and expand people-oriented initiatives and service-based projects if elected. His campaign emphasizes continuity in governance and a commitment to development programs that prioritize community needs.

Born in the early 1970s, Ogungbo is a native of Lagos State and an accomplished professional. His educational journey began at Ansardeen Primary School, Victoria Island, followed by secondary education at Kuramo Secondary School. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy from Yaba College of Technology and pursued further qualifications, including a Postgraduate Diploma in Project and Resources Management and a Master’s in Public Administration from Lagos State University.

With over 24 years of service to the Lagos State Government, Ogungbo has gained a reputation as an expert accountant and tax consultant. His professional accolades include being an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Taxation of Nigeria and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration.

Ogungbo’s political career reflects deep grassroots involvement. His early engagement began as the spokesperson for Agboyi-Ketu’s Youth Vanguard in 1998, transitioning to more strategic roles such as the secretary of the finance committee for Governor Babatunde Fashola’s 2007 campaign. Additionally, he has held key leadership positions, including chairman of the Ketu Mile 12 and Alapere BATCO group and former secretary of the defunct ACN party in Agboyi-Ketu.
