KOKO’s advice comes after observing a troubling trend of employees engaging in TikTok live streams that inadvertently expose their workplace environments.

He recounted an incident involving a UK-based Nigerian support worker who posted a personal picture taken at a service user’s residence on a popular social media platform. Unbeknownst to the worker, his organization’s management monitored his activities online.

The organization promptly launched an investigation, concluding that the post violated health and care policies. The employee received a strong warning not to repeat the misconduct.

A source informed KosofePost that the repercussions extended beyond the warning. When the worker sought a new job and listed his current employer as part of his work history, the organization provided a negative reference due to his social media behavior. This resulted in the loss of the job opportunity. The stain on his record may take a year to be expunged.

KOKO emphasized that such incidents serve as a cautionary tale. “For individuals in desperate need of new jobs, avoiding references from employers who hold negative records may be the only short-term solution. However, the skills gained from these roles remain an asset when seeking future opportunities,” he noted.

He advised Nigerians to exercise caution and adhere to workplace policies to avoid jeopardizing their professional careers. As organizations increasingly monitor employee activities on social media, maintaining professionalism both online and offline has never been more critical.
