How Three Political Figures Supported a Journalist’s Relocation

Relocating abroad is a significant life decision, often kept private by many. However, for a Nigerian journalist who recently moved overseas, three political figures stood out for their unwavering support: Mayor Dele Oshinowo, Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA; Honourable Afolabi, former Executive Secretary of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA; and Comrade Olayiwola Sulyman Opomulero.

Unlike acquaintances who offer superficial goodwill, these men demonstrated genuine commitment beyond political ties. Their financial and moral support played a crucial role in the journalist’s relocation journey, reinforcing the essence of enduring friendships in a society where relationships are often transactional.

Financial Contributions and Unwavering Support

While family members played a key role—including a close relative (name withheld) who contributed approximately £25,000 towards the move—these political figures stepped in significantly. Mayor Oshinowo provided ₦500,000 just 72 hours before the journalist’s family of five departed, while ABK contributed ₦100,000,? and Opomulero supported with ₦200,000?.

Their assistance went beyond financial aid, reflecting a deeper commitment to genuine friendship and professional solidarity. Unlike those who cultivate relationships only for personal gain, these men have consistently shown up in both good and challenging times.

ABK’s Thoughtful Generosity

Honourable Afolabi, widely referred to as ABK, has built a reputation for his generosity and attention to detail. Whether through personal engagements—where he often arrives bearing gifts like locally made Zobo juice—or his sponsorship of media coverage for sporting events in Ogun State, his actions speak volumes.

Through ABK’s support, the journalist and a colleague from Kosofe Inside Out received sponsorship for media coverage of Remo Stars matches and other engagements in the state. His dedication to the media industry contrasts with corporate entities that often require lobbying for sponsorships.

Friendship Beyond Conditional Wealth

The contributions of these political figures highlight a broader narrative about genuine support. In an environment where many spend millions to gain influence, these men’s commitment underscores the value of long-term goodwill over opportunistic exchanges.

True friendships and partnerships, as exemplified by Oshinowo, Afolabi, and Opomulero, are not built on conditional generosity but on trust, appreciation, and consistency. Their actions reaffirm the belief that support rooted in sincerity carries far more weight than transactional relationships including Oloworo of Oworoshoki Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Oba Babatunde Saliu Elebo II, also made a generous donation.
